Is My Driver Swing Efficient?

We've all asked this question before. Is my golf ball going as far as it should with the effort I'm putting into my swing?

The answer for most people is no.

Driving Range Safety Regulations

Although we want everyone to enjoy the Driving Range facilities, safety is our #1 priority. Below are some key regulations that are enforced by our staff to ensure the safety of all patrons:

Why You Could Be Losing Up To 30 Yards

The saying, “it’s not the machine, it’s the operator” is one that we all hear from time to time when we are blaming our clubs for our bad shot. While this may be true on some occasions, it could also mean that you're using the wrong clubs for your swing. With the development of launch monitor technology, we can now see how a club can influence your ball within seconds.

What Club Fitters Look For

Once we have determined your swing speed, there are two numbers that we look at the most when fitting: Launch Angle and Spin Rate.

Elephant Jungle Sanctuary

Staff member Vinnie takes a trip to Chiang Mai, Thailand.

All of the elephants housed at the Sanctuary were rescued from circuses, tourist rides and displacement from deforestation. The sanctuary is run by the Karen tribe, who live on-site to care for the elephants. The areas in which they live are typically natural elephant habitats.

The Elephant Jungle Sanctuary and people of the Karen hill-tribes have something of a symbiotic relationship, and it is only with their partnership and co-operation that we are able to offer a truly ethical elephant tourism experience, as well as protect the remaining elephant habitats and preserve the elephant population in Thailand.

Elementary School Story

Story by Alex Ludeman and Kate Weir

Each year we have the privilege of visiting local elementary schools as part of Golf Burnaby’s Reach Out Program. Personally, this is the perfect way to start the golf season, as we get to see so many bright smiling faces each day, and meet students who are so excited to learn and play golf. It sets the tone for the rest of the year in regards to how this game should be approached and played -- with joy and the intent to have fun. Let me walk you through our typical day at an elementary school.

The New Rules of Golf

Maybe you have heard about the proposal for a huge shift in the rules of golf. Check out the possible changes that could improve your playing experience! (Sorry, gimmes are still not recognized).

Driving Range Winter Practice Tip

With the lingering winter season, now is a great time to work on contact – the ability to stand over an iron shot and know it’s going to hit the green.  Working on this skill can help to improve your distance and direction and, most importantly, your consistency from shot to shot.

Practicing this skill year-round is one of the perks of living in this part of the world. Unfortunately though, during cold spells like this, off-centre shots can send vibrations up your arms and through your entire body. But let’s take this negative, and turn it into a positive.

Here is one quick and easy tip you can use to practice during this cool season.  Be sure to have a roll of painter’s tape handy – essential for practicing this skill to improve your contact.

Golf Travels: Hawaii

Are you looking for a unique golf experience? Try the “Guest for a Day” program at the King Kamehameha Golf Club in Central Maui. Along with breathtaking views from almost every point, this golf course offers a fun layout and first-class facilities. We had a great time playing the course and will no doubt take advantage of this incredible opportunity again on our next visit to Maui.
