Say Hi to Alex, Driving Range Supervisor at Burnaby Mountain Golf Course!

Alex has been a mainstay at Burnaby Mountain Golf Course for over a decade, and brings his passion for the game to every lesson he teaches at the Golf Academy. We asked Alex what makes him excited about golf, what his golf specialties are, and what he does outside of the game.

Why are you passionate about playing golf?

I love that after 30 years of playing this game, I have never regretted playing a round of golf. I can go home after a round and still be excited to get out there again. I also love that I can play a forgettable round of golf by my standards, yet still have a great time enjoying the wonderful walk and great conversation with the people I am with.

Why do you love teaching golf?

I love the fact that every lesson is different. Two students could present the same issue but have very different remedies to fix it. Being able to give a student the personalized information they need to resolve an issue or get past a plateau, and seeing the joy that brings them, gives me so much enjoyment every day.

Are there any aspects of golf that are your specialty?

I really enjoyed my training through the Titleist Performance Institute (TPI). They teach the Body-Swing connection through physical screening, allowing me to understand why a golfer might have a specific swing characteristic. This enables me to offer swing or setup adjustments that align with the golfer’s physical abilities.

What do you enjoy doing outside of golf?

I have two sons (4 and 1) and a wonderful, supportive wife. There is nothing I would rather do than be with them, so I make sure to spend every moment I can with my family. My main hobbies these days are driving Hot Wheels, scootering, and playing peekaboo.
