Riverway to host the 2026 BC Amateur Championships!

Last updated: April 14, 2025

The City of Burnaby’s Riverway Golf Course has scored an eagle. Burnaby residents will soon be able to enjoy not one, but two prestigious golf championships: the 2026 BC Amateur Golf Championships (July 6-10) and the 2027 BC Women’s Amateur Golf Championships (June 24-26). This firmly establishes Riverway as a world-class public golf course.

These elite tournaments draw the best players from across the province, with finishers qualifying for the Canadian Men’s and Women’s Amateur Championships. They have been launchpads for some of Canada’s best golfers, such as Canadian Open champion Nick Taylor and Canadian Hall of Fame recipient Lisa Walters.

The Championships will draw spectators and players from across the province, boosting the local economy through tourism, dining and hospitality. This free event allows local residents to watch BC’s future golf stars in action.

“It’s rare for a municipal course to host such a prestigious championship, let alone two years in a row. This is a testament to our reputation and facilities,” said Hal Eremko, Head Professional at Golf Burnaby.

CEO of British Columbia Golf, Kris Jonasson, remarks, “British Columbia Golf has long been aware of the high quality municipally-owned golf courses across the province. The City of Burnaby's Riverway course has always been near the top of that championship-calibre list.”

As a City of Burnaby facility, Riverway provides affordable top-tier golf. Its par-72 golf course stretches over 7,000 yards, with a range with 54 climate-controlled, night-lit stalls and a stunning Westcoast style clubhouse. These facilities reflect the City of Burnaby’s commitment to providing exceptional recreational amenities to its community.

The BC Amateur and BC Women’s Amateur Championships are run by British Columbia Golf, the provincial sport organization for golf as recognized by the Government of British Columbia and ViaSport. This is Riverway and the City of Burnaby’s first time hosting the Championships.
